WORLD CLASS AUTOMOTIVE RESEARCH CLUSTER

The Initiative for Automotive Manufacturing Innovation (IAMI – pronounced “I am I”) is a world class materials and manufacturing research cluster whose goal is the investigation and development of new technologies for producing lighter weight, cost competitive automobiles.
Formed through collaboration between McMaster University, the University of Waterloo and industrial and government partners, the Initiative is focused on establishing a technological edge for Ontario’s automotive industry to ensure its survival and prosperity in an increasingly competitive global marketplace.
IAMI will be able to accomplish an ambitious agenda because of the strategic focus that both McMaster and Waterloo have placed on materials and manufacturing research.
“We now have a rare opportunity to make a real impact on an entire industry,” said David Wilkinson, co-director and principal investigator of IAMI, and Director of both the McMaster Centre for Automotive Materials and the McMaster Manufacturing Research Institute. “IAMI represents a new approach to technology development and its rapid deployment in industry.”
